THÉO,

FROM WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP RUNNER-UP

TO EXTREME SWIMMER

Having lost his hands and feet to meningitis at the age of six, Theo Curin was 13 when he joined France’s national disability swimming centre in Vichy and took part in his first French championships. He very quickly became one of the country’s brightest disability swimming prospects and competed at the Paralympic Games Rio 2016 at age 16, making him the youngest member of the France team.

Theo was a two-time world championship runner-up in 2017 and won 200m freestyle bronze at the 2019 World Championships in London.

In September 2020, he became the first quadruple-amputee athlete to complete a Half Ironman, in Les Sables d’Olonne, a feat he achieved in six hours and 53 minutes.

In November 2021, Theo racked up another superhuman achievement by undertaking the Défi Titicaca (Titicaca Challenge). Accompanied by Olympic silver medallist Malia Metella and environmental adventurer Matthieu Witvoet, he swam unassisted across Lake Titicaca, a 108-kilometre journey made in frigid, 12°C waters at 3,800 metres above sea level.

Aside from his athletic endeavours, Théo also gives talks, commentates on TV and radio, models for Biotherm, and has now moved into acting.

« When I’m in the water I feel like everyone else.I’m just me.I feel free, lighter than air. »
